Fishers Fireworks on the Fourth in 2011
Posted by marchantteam under Fisher Events, For Buyers, For Sellers, General Information, Happenings
The 4th of July is right around the corner; wonder where the best places to watch the fireworks in Fishers are…here’s a few suggestions!
Conner Prairie and the Glorious 4th is July 2, 3rd and 4th! It is more than just the nightly fireworks…although those will be held with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. This is a chance to relive how the holiday was celebrated way back in the 1800′s with games, barn dancing and some great food.
Up in Noblesville, the Car Show and Parade will be on Monday, July 4th. The Parade (beginning at 16th and Harrison and travelling south on 16th to Logan) starts at 5:00 p.m. followed by the music o Dave and Rae at 7:00 p.m. The fireworks will start at 10:00 p.m.
Over in Geist…the Blast on the Bridge is a great outing with a boat parade, skydivers, great food and views from the Bridge.
Maybe take in an Indians game and watch the fireworks twice! The first will be in the Victory Field, but stay seated and you can also watch the Indianapolis fireworks launched at the top of the Regions Bank building. The Indians will be handing out American flags to the first 14,500 fans!
Be sure to check out more great spots by reading the Carmel Blog and the Geist Blog too!
And after the weekend is over and before school starts…if you are thinking about buying a new home in Fishers, be sure to check out the neighborhood reports or the marketing reports to learn more about the Fishers Real Estate market!

Fishers Freedom Festival June 25th and 26th
Posted by marchantteam under Fisher Events, For Buyers, For Sellers, General Information
Fishers Indiana is a great place to live; we all know the numerous awards this town has received from Most Affordable to the Best Place to Raise a Family.
One of the reasons is the number of affordable events held in Fishers. This Saturday and Sunday, June 25th/26th is one of those events. It is the Fishers Freedom Festival!
It opens with the 5K on Saturday 25th; after you walk/run that event you will be hungry. Great news, the food vendors open at 10:00 a.m. Something that sounds like a lot of fun is the Water Balloon an Discover Scuba booth. The swimming pool will be set up at the far north end of Hollan Park.
The K-9 demonstration is at noon on the east side of the Entertainment Tent.
There are a variety of bands scheduled to play throughout the festival as well.
In the evening hours 7-9 PM there will be hot air balloon rides.
The main event, the Parade will be on Sunday at 4:00 followed by the Fireworks and Big Daddy Caddy band performance.
It is a family friendly event for all ages and one of the many fun things to do in Fishers. If you live in Sunblest Farms this will be an easy walk for you! Selling real estate in Fishers is a joy for me; the town sells itself! I hope to see a few of you there; have a great time!

Symphony on the Prairie in Fishers
Posted by marchantteam under Fisher Events, For Buyers, For Sellers, General Information
If you live in one of the best Fishers neighborhoods (i.e. Conner Knoll, Fawnsbrook, Harrison Green) near Conner Prairie, you will soon be hearing the sounds of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra (ISO). The season starts on June 25th. If you are curious if there are homes for sale in these neighborhoods..you can always see the up to date list of Fishers homes for sale by neighborhood.
For anyone new to the Fishers area, let me highlight this event for you. Conner Prairie is over 800 acres of beautiful land. Every summer thousands (90,000 to be exact) of people come with their wagons, picnic baskets, red table cloths, wine and fried chicken to put out a blanket and enjoy the sounds of the ISO.
This year the schedule includes a tribute to Frank Sinatra (July 15th and 16th); songs from Billy Joel and Elton John (August 5th and 6th), an evening of Lee Ann Womack songs (August 26th and 27th), a night with 50′s and 60′s called Flash Cadillac (September 1st and 2nd) and of course the Star Spangled Symphony on July 1, 2, 3 and 4th complete with fireworks!
It is one of the most relaxing events in Fishers. To be beneath the stars, a glass of wine and listening to the symphony is when I can really unplug from the stress of the day.
So whether you have just moved to Fishers or are a long time resident; be sure to check out this event and let me know what you think!

Spring Fling Easter Egg Hunt in Fishers a Success
Posted by marchantteam under Fisher Events, For Buyers, For Sellers, General Information
Sometimes being a Real Estate Agent in Fishers is more than selling homes in Fishers! Sometimes it is about paying forward to the community! This weekend was the annual Spring Fling and it was the only sunny hours in about a week of constant rain! We had face painting, balloon twisting, a magician, calkwalk, and of course the Bunny and Egg Hunt. Thank you to all who helped and to all who were able to join us!
Here’s a quick video of some of the fun!

First Time Home Buyers Class in Fishers
Posted by marchantteam under Buyer Information, Fisher Events, For Buyers, General Information
First Time Home Buyers have lots of great questions and we answer many of them in our First Time Home Buyers class in Fishers. We have a lender, a home inspector and myself all speak for about 15 minutes and then answer questions from the group. It is very low key, snacks are served and we try very hard to honor the one hour commitment. We answer questions like:
- How much house can I afford
- How much money do I need to have down
- What are closing costs
- What are common items found in an inspection report
- What’s a pre approval letter
- What does my credit score need to be
- Is there room to negotiate on the price of the home
- How long does it take to find a home and close on the home
- How much house can I get for the money
- What is the process to buy a house
These are some of the more common questions but we get all kinds. It is an opportunity to meet with all the key people in the process in one room and get your questions answered. We will have example forms such as the Purchase Agreement, Inspection Report and Good Faith Estimate for you to take with you. We will also have a copy of an MLS Sheet from one of the many homes for sale in Fishers and go over that so you are comfortable looking at them. We will introduce you to some cool tools to help in your search for a home including the One Call gets it All phone number, that allows you to call on any house that is for sale in the Indy area and get the price with no one knowing you called! It’s a great feature and free to those attending the class!
Buying your first home is a daunting event; let us help educate and lessen the anxiety that sometimes goes along with that. Registration for the First Time Home Buyer class in Fishers is required. We look forward to meeting you!

What to do on New Years Eve in Fishers
Posted by marchantteam under Fisher Events, For Buyers, For Sellers, General Information, Happenings, Hot Spots
What do Fishers Real Estate and New Years Eve entertainment have in common? Today they have this blog post in common! Hopefully something from this list will be your choice for celebrating 2011!
Oak Hill Manion with an elegant dinner/champagne and dancing to Five Easy Pieces; cost is $75.00 a person.
Living Proof will be at the Hilton Garden Inn just off of 96th Street (9775 North by Northeast Blvd; their phone number is 578-0700). The cost is $275/a couple. Living Proof performs all over the Indy area.
Closer to Geist at Bella Vita‘s, the Bishops will be performing; cost is $100/couple. Rumor is they will be giving a $100 bills away throughout the evening! Also The Grill will be hosting the Aberdeen Project from 9-1:30 with party favors and free champagne. Filet and Lobster for $24.99 and no cover!
Something more for the whole family…try Pinheads and Glow Bowl! Beginning at 5:00 p.m. on the 31st for $15.00 a person for unlimited bowling and shoes! Pinheads is located at 13825 Britton Park Road.
Another family event is downtown at the Children’s Museum. It is the Countdown to Noon from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. This is probably more my speed for sure…it would allow me to celebrate the countdown at a reasonable hour! You can meet the characters from Oz and even stay to see the show.
Wherever New Years Eve takes you, be safe and have fun!

Santa arrived in Fishers
Posted by marchantteam under Fisher Events, For Buyers, For Sellers, General Information
We all had such a great time at the Cookies with Santa event today at Keller Williams in Fishers. Santa arrived and commented on how many great homes are for sale in Fishers and didn’t have any trouble with flying through the snow! The kids were very excited and many of them came right up to Santa and got their pictures taken. Here are a few photo’s from today! Remember there are lots of other events in Fishers including the Gingerbread House display at Conner Prairie, Christmas at the Zoo and the Polar Bear Express.
And don’t forget the Christmas Tree Light Contest we are having!

Fishers Christmas Tree Lighting Contest
Posted by marchantteam under Fisher Events, For Buyers, For Sellers, General Information, Tips and Random Thoughts
It was a beautiful day in Fishers today; 50 degrees. We put up our Christmas Tree lights! It made me think of all the homes in Fishers that will be decorated for the holidays. So I decided to have a contest!
Between now and December 20th you can submit the address of the home you think should win the 1st Fishers Light Up your House Contest! Just email me the address so that I can visit the home and see the display! I’ll announce the winner during that week on this blog. The winner will receive a $50.00 gift certificate to Target (maybe to stock up on more lights!) and I will highlight their neighborhood here. If the home selected was nominated by another person….a $50.00 gift card to Target for them too!
Here are a couple of tips related to decorating with lights:
- Do not staple or put a nail through the light strings, it could compromise the integrity of the wiring and be a fire hazard.
- Warm electrical plates are a sign of danger, be sure to have an electrician check that out.
- When you get that great tree (hopefully from Yakey’s on 106th), be sure to keep it well watered to prevent the lights from igniting dry branches.
As an update to the Fishers Real Estate market, there are currently 650 homes for sale in Fishers and another 101 condo’s for sale. There are currently about 150 homes that are pended (under contract) and 48 of those happened since November 1st! Hopefully we will have a strong November in sales.
Be sure to ask your Fishers Realtor any questions you have about buying, selling, investing in a home. I can also refer you to lenders and other real estate professionals. I recently learned a bit about Lender411. You can go and ask questions online and get answers. Or if you want a local representative; I can direct you there as well.

Tree Lighting and Santa at Hamilton Town Center and in Fishers
Posted by marchantteam under Fisher Events, For Buyers, For Sellers, General Information, Happenings
It’s November 11, 2010 and we are a few weeks away from Thanksgiving and the day after is when Santa will be arriving in the Fishers area! You will have a few opportunities to visit with Santa, first at Hamilton Town Center on November 26th.
Hamilton Town Center (HTC) has some great ideas on the arrival of Santa…there will be elf helpers that will have microphones and Santa will have an ear piece…that way a child’s name and maybe a fun fact or gift idea can be relayed to Santa!
HTC will have a tree lighting (as well as lighting all the buildings) at 6:00 p.m. on the 26th. They will have a magic show, music, stilt walkers and face painting!
Santa will make his way over to the Fishers Municipal Center on Thursday, December 2nd at 6:30 p.m until 8:00 p.m. That is also the tree lighting event time!
There is cookies with Santa on December 4th at the Keller Williams office at 11800 Exit 5 Parkway in Fishers. Contact me to get times. Keller Williams loves being part of the community and has three events each year…Cookies with Santa, Halloween Trick or Treat and the Spring Fling Easter Egg Hunt.
One more mention, if you love getting live Christmas trees for your home…you MUST visit Yakey’s Tree Farm on 106th between Cumberland and Lantern on the south side of the street. My kids are grown, but for 15 years or so we would go to Yakey’s.
He is a tree farmer in Fishers and has the most wonderful experience for your family. You drive down a long gravel driveway and park. You walk behind the house and down a path over a small bridge and end up looking onto a huge field of Christmas trees. You stroll through the trees, find the one you want and then they cut it down for you. It is in a word…magical. My kids still talk about this memory. Tell them Cindy Marchant sent you; he will remember me!
As you know this is a Fishers Real Estate blog and so I usually try to mention something about the market. You can read the October Fishers Real Estate market report as well as Neighborhoods in Fishers reports and other local events here. I hope you will bookmark it for future event planning and perhaps to consider me when it is time to buy or sell a home in Fishers!

Things to do in Fishers for the Holidays
Posted by marchantteam under Fisher Events, For Buyers, For Sellers, General Information, Happenings, Hot Spots
During the fourth quarter, selling homes in Fishers slows down, but the activities and events pick up! I recently covered the specifics of Trick or Treating events so today I am going to focus on a few other great things to do in Fishers.
The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow only has one weekend left to take advantage of this, the 28-30th.
For those that don’t know the story of the Headless Horseman, it goes something like this. Long ago there was supposedly a soldier from the Revoluntionary War who was decapitated by a cannonball and now roams Fishers Sleepy Hollow on a horse. Supposedly he cannot cross bridges, maybe he is ghost because they can’t cross them either. It was this tale that a gentleman scared Ichabod Crane with so that he would lose “the girl” in the story of Sleepy Hollow.
Hours for this event are 6-9 p.m. but many events last until 10:00 p.m. Hayride tickets are on a first come, first serve basis.
Other activities include the Scary-o-kee and other glow in the dark activities. There is pumpkin carving, balloon voyage (tethered hot air balloons), storytelling by lantern lights, face painting, crafts and movies too.
Next, let’s be sure to cover the Drumstick Dash (while not in Fishers, it’s an easy ride into Broad Ripple):
It is always held on Thanksgiving morning and there is so much energy at 7:00 a.m., it definitely gets you in the mood for the holidays. So for 2010 it will be on Thursday, November 25th. Last year there were over 9,000 people there!
Volunteers typically need to be there by 7:00 to have breakfast and get their T-shirts and instructions. The race actually begins at 9:00 in Broad Ripple. It is a 4.5 mile race and there is also a 2.6 mile fun run course for those of us no longer able to do longer distances. There are great snacks there after the race too!
Can you believe the Polar Bear Express is almost sold out?
Since 1995, the Polar Bear Express in Fishers has been making children and adults BELIEVE. The train ride begins at the Fishers Train Station where a Christmas story is told. The daytime trips (9:45AM, 11:00AM, 1:30PM and 2:45PM) will ride from Fishers to Noblesville and back to Fishers. Santa Claus will be on the train to visit with the children. Cookies are offered on this trip.
The evening trips (which are just about sold out) are at 4:00PM, 5:45PM and 7:30PM, they will travel through Noblesville square and the North Pole located at the Indiana Transportation Museum. Santa AND Mrs. Clause will be on that train as well as the Polar Bear himself.
There are treat bags given to the children on all excursions.
You will need to set up your reservations as soon as possible, only one evening slot is available as of today, October 26th, 2010.
The last event is the Gingerbread Festival up at Conner Prairie.
It is a delighful experience to go and see all the Gingerbread houses, towns, and close to skyscrapers that are displayed!
If you are interested in competing, all entry forms are due by Friday, November 5th with a non refundabl entry fee of $15.00. There are various age categories for judging from (9-12 yr old) to (18 and up). There will also be awards for the People’s Choice, Most Traditional, Most Creative, etc. Cash prizes are awarded! They must be bigger than 9″ x 9″ and smaller than 24″ x 24″.
Gingerbread houses are due to Conner Prairie by November 19th.
The event for viewing begins on December 1st and runs all the way through Christmas and ends on January 3rd 2011. You’ll have plenty of time to schedule your trip! They are open Tues-Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
