Fishers Fireworks on the Fourth in 2011
Posted by marchantteam under Fisher Events, For Buyers, For Sellers, General Information, Happenings
The 4th of July is right around the corner; wonder where the best places to watch the fireworks in Fishers are…here’s a few suggestions!
Conner Prairie and the Glorious 4th is July 2, 3rd and 4th! It is more than just the nightly fireworks…although those will be held with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. This is a chance to relive how the holiday was celebrated way back in the 1800′s with games, barn dancing and some great food.
Up in Noblesville, the Car Show and Parade will be on Monday, July 4th. The Parade (beginning at 16th and Harrison and travelling south on 16th to Logan) starts at 5:00 p.m. followed by the music o Dave and Rae at 7:00 p.m. The fireworks will start at 10:00 p.m.
Over in Geist…the Blast on the Bridge is a great outing with a boat parade, skydivers, great food and views from the Bridge.
Maybe take in an Indians game and watch the fireworks twice! The first will be in the Victory Field, but stay seated and you can also watch the Indianapolis fireworks launched at the top of the Regions Bank building. The Indians will be handing out American flags to the first 14,500 fans!
Be sure to check out more great spots by reading the Carmel Blog and the Geist Blog too!
And after the weekend is over and before school starts…if you are thinking about buying a new home in Fishers, be sure to check out the neighborhood reports or the marketing reports to learn more about the Fishers Real Estate market!

Indianapolis Home Show 2011 and Fischer Homes
Posted by marchantteam under Buyer Information, For Buyers, For Sellers, General Information, Happenings
I went to the Home S
how at the Fairgrounds this weekend and it is one of the best ones I have been to in recent years.
There are more vendors and interactive booths and of course the home that is built inside the fairgrounds. This year, there is an inground pool by Thursday Pools within the landscaping of the home…in fact, I was more impressed with the landscaping than the home this year.
The floor plan that Fischer Homes has built is very functional home for today’s living. It is the Keller model and has angled walls and open living spaces. There were some really nice touches and finishes; the home decked out was approximately $450,000; base price was $360,000.
If you wait in line (which we did) to get inside the home, you will notice a Greek godess statue in the yard…look closely…she’s real! It was fun watching everyone do a double take when she would change her pose.
Ticket prices are $13.00, but you can get $2.00 off if you buy them online. The show runs from now through February 6th. If you go Monday-Thursday this week, you can also get $3.00 off coupons from Marsh Supermarkets.
It’s a great place to go to see what the latest trends are and meet some vendors for future projects you may want to tackle. If you are curious about renovation costs and payback returns, be sure to visit the renovations post at the Geist Blog. And if you want a professional opinion about what changes will make your Fishers home sell faster and for more dollars, contact me for details.
Let me know what you think, especially if you are able to identify all four movie themes decorated throughout the home…hint the first one I saw was Marley and Me!

Is Fishers a Town or City or Hybrid
Posted by marchantteam under For Buyers, For Sellers, General Information, Happenings, Tips and Random Thoughts
Is the current “town” of Fishers having an identity crisis? Are they a town, a city or will they become a hybrid?
Looks like it will be November of 2012 before anyone knows for sure. Although a recent federal lawsuit has been filed to move the referendum into 2011. What are the options and benefits?
Currently Fishers is a Town with a Town Council consisting of 7 members. It is headed by Scott Faultless. The Town Council is responsible for appointing and overseeing a town manager whose responsibilities include overseeing the Administration, Development, Fire, Police, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Wastewater and Information Technology departments. Everything seems to be running fine today; but what about in 20 years when the homes are older, the people are older, the public employees are older…focus always needs to be on the future.
If Fishers were to become a city, it would be a 2nd class city; 2nd class because you can only have one first class city in the State and Indianapolis holds that spot. The benefit of a city is to have an elected mayor, it would also move to a 9 member council. The mayor would be a fulltime job and so focus on expansion of light industrial businesses might be more likely, bringing tax dollars into Fishers. Currently all of the Town Council members hold other daytime jobs, making the government side perhaps more like a hobby (my words). In a nutshell…a city looks to increase government efficiencies and tax savings.
The hybrid leave the council in place, there is a mayor but rather than a peoples vote, they are appointed by the Council in place. Some believe Fishers as a Hybrid is not a good idea.
What is interesting is that a source tells me in the last local election only 3,000 people voted. Fishers has exploded in growth from 7500 or so in 1990 to nearly 80,000 in 2010! If half of those are children, that still leave 40,000 people to vote! Where are they? Do they care? Should they care?
Now to the crux of the matter; how would any of this affect Fishers Real Estate? The classic answer is it depends…on how much more we would end up paying for a mayor and two additional council members mitigated by the small industrail businesses that might come into Fishers. It’s a wait and see for sure.

What to do on New Years Eve in Fishers
Posted by marchantteam under Fisher Events, For Buyers, For Sellers, General Information, Happenings, Hot Spots
What do Fishers Real Estate and New Years Eve entertainment have in common? Today they have this blog post in common! Hopefully something from this list will be your choice for celebrating 2011!
Oak Hill Manion with an elegant dinner/champagne and dancing to Five Easy Pieces; cost is $75.00 a person.
Living Proof will be at the Hilton Garden Inn just off of 96th Street (9775 North by Northeast Blvd; their phone number is 578-0700). The cost is $275/a couple. Living Proof performs all over the Indy area.
Closer to Geist at Bella Vita‘s, the Bishops will be performing; cost is $100/couple. Rumor is they will be giving a $100 bills away throughout the evening! Also The Grill will be hosting the Aberdeen Project from 9-1:30 with party favors and free champagne. Filet and Lobster for $24.99 and no cover!
Something more for the whole family…try Pinheads and Glow Bowl! Beginning at 5:00 p.m. on the 31st for $15.00 a person for unlimited bowling and shoes! Pinheads is located at 13825 Britton Park Road.
Another family event is downtown at the Children’s Museum. It is the Countdown to Noon from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. This is probably more my speed for sure…it would allow me to celebrate the countdown at a reasonable hour! You can meet the characters from Oz and even stay to see the show.
Wherever New Years Eve takes you, be safe and have fun!

Santa arrives in Fishers – Track it with Norad
Posted by marchantteam under For Buyers, For Sellers, General Information, Happenings
It is just about time for Santa to begin his trek across the United States. Until he begins his journey, be sure to visit NORAD and play all the Christmas games that they have from connecting the lights on the tree, to a tetris with presents, and placing the gumdrops on the moving spoon and more. As a adult, I laughed quite a bit on most of these. I™m sure the kids can play them better than me!
You can hear Santa read Twas the Night Before Christmas at NORAD also.
Starting on Christmas Eve, you can track Santa™s journey. He will be in Fishers sometime in the wee hours. He may come from East to West and travel from the Sandcreek area to the Sunblest area or he may come from the South such as Windermere or from the north in Sweet Briar.
Whether you visit the blog to catch up on the Fishers Real Estate Market or to begin your search for a home for sale in Fishers or to learn about how we work with sellers in Fishers, I hope you can just kick back today and enjoy the games and Santa journey and not think about Real Estate!
But when you are ready, I hope you will take the time to read the blog posts I™ve written over the last three years and use me to help you to find or sell your home in Fishers.
This is your Fishers Real Estate Agent signing off and wishing all of my readers the Merriest Christmas.

Christmas Downtown Indianapolis
Posted by marchantteam under For Buyers, For Sellers, General Information, Happenings, Hot Spots
Many of you will travel downtown over the next few days; so wanted to share some information about the Indianapolis Soldiers and Sailors Monument.
It has been decorated and lit up annually since 1962 and uses 5,000 lights and 52 strands of garland. More than 100,000 people attend the event; held the day after Thanksgiving every year.
The Indianapolis Soldiers and Sailors Monument stands just shy of 285 feet, which is just about 21 feet shorter than the Statue of Liberty.
Couple of fun facts are it took 12 years to complete and in today’s dollars would cost $500,000,000; there is an observation deck that can be reached by stairs (331 of them) for free or by elevator for $2.00; there is a box hidden in the cornerstone that contains a list of Indiana soldiers who fought during the Civil War.
It is at the center of town; the city of Indianapolis is set up in a grid so 6 blocks east of Monument Circle is East Street where Mass Ave (electic shopping) is; 6 blocks west is West Street (Minor league baseball field, Zoo, White River State Park); etc. So the city of Indy is basically a 12 x 12 block area. It makes navigating downtown really easy.
Your Fishers Real Estate agent will probably take a few days off over the holidays (in fact she has already started!) so stayed tuned. As of December 20th there are 776 homes for sale in Fishers, 107 of those are condo’s. If you see something interesting, just sent me a quick email; I’m always ready to help you!

Tree Lighting and Santa at Hamilton Town Center and in Fishers
Posted by marchantteam under Fisher Events, For Buyers, For Sellers, General Information, Happenings
It’s November 11, 2010 and we are a few weeks away from Thanksgiving and the day after is when Santa will be arriving in the Fishers area! You will have a few opportunities to visit with Santa, first at Hamilton Town Center on November 26th.
Hamilton Town Center (HTC) has some great ideas on the arrival of Santa…there will be elf helpers that will have microphones and Santa will have an ear piece…that way a child’s name and maybe a fun fact or gift idea can be relayed to Santa!
HTC will have a tree lighting (as well as lighting all the buildings) at 6:00 p.m. on the 26th. They will have a magic show, music, stilt walkers and face painting!
Santa will make his way over to the Fishers Municipal Center on Thursday, December 2nd at 6:30 p.m until 8:00 p.m. That is also the tree lighting event time!
There is cookies with Santa on December 4th at the Keller Williams office at 11800 Exit 5 Parkway in Fishers. Contact me to get times. Keller Williams loves being part of the community and has three events each year…Cookies with Santa, Halloween Trick or Treat and the Spring Fling Easter Egg Hunt.
One more mention, if you love getting live Christmas trees for your home…you MUST visit Yakey’s Tree Farm on 106th between Cumberland and Lantern on the south side of the street. My kids are grown, but for 15 years or so we would go to Yakey’s.
He is a tree farmer in Fishers and has the most wonderful experience for your family. You drive down a long gravel driveway and park. You walk behind the house and down a path over a small bridge and end up looking onto a huge field of Christmas trees. You stroll through the trees, find the one you want and then they cut it down for you. It is in a word…magical. My kids still talk about this memory. Tell them Cindy Marchant sent you; he will remember me!
As you know this is a Fishers Real Estate blog and so I usually try to mention something about the market. You can read the October Fishers Real Estate market report as well as Neighborhoods in Fishers reports and other local events here. I hope you will bookmark it for future event planning and perhaps to consider me when it is time to buy or sell a home in Fishers!

Things to do in Fishers for the Holidays
Posted by marchantteam under Fisher Events, For Buyers, For Sellers, General Information, Happenings, Hot Spots
During the fourth quarter, selling homes in Fishers slows down, but the activities and events pick up! I recently covered the specifics of Trick or Treating events so today I am going to focus on a few other great things to do in Fishers.
The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow only has one weekend left to take advantage of this, the 28-30th.
For those that don’t know the story of the Headless Horseman, it goes something like this. Long ago there was supposedly a soldier from the Revoluntionary War who was decapitated by a cannonball and now roams Fishers Sleepy Hollow on a horse. Supposedly he cannot cross bridges, maybe he is ghost because they can’t cross them either. It was this tale that a gentleman scared Ichabod Crane with so that he would lose “the girl” in the story of Sleepy Hollow.
Hours for this event are 6-9 p.m. but many events last until 10:00 p.m. Hayride tickets are on a first come, first serve basis.
Other activities include the Scary-o-kee and other glow in the dark activities. There is pumpkin carving, balloon voyage (tethered hot air balloons), storytelling by lantern lights, face painting, crafts and movies too.
Next, let’s be sure to cover the Drumstick Dash (while not in Fishers, it’s an easy ride into Broad Ripple):
It is always held on Thanksgiving morning and there is so much energy at 7:00 a.m., it definitely gets you in the mood for the holidays. So for 2010 it will be on Thursday, November 25th. Last year there were over 9,000 people there!
Volunteers typically need to be there by 7:00 to have breakfast and get their T-shirts and instructions. The race actually begins at 9:00 in Broad Ripple. It is a 4.5 mile race and there is also a 2.6 mile fun run course for those of us no longer able to do longer distances. There are great snacks there after the race too!
Can you believe the Polar Bear Express is almost sold out?
Since 1995, the Polar Bear Express in Fishers has been making children and adults BELIEVE. The train ride begins at the Fishers Train Station where a Christmas story is told. The daytime trips (9:45AM, 11:00AM, 1:30PM and 2:45PM) will ride from Fishers to Noblesville and back to Fishers. Santa Claus will be on the train to visit with the children. Cookies are offered on this trip.
The evening trips (which are just about sold out) are at 4:00PM, 5:45PM and 7:30PM, they will travel through Noblesville square and the North Pole located at the Indiana Transportation Museum. Santa AND Mrs. Clause will be on that train as well as the Polar Bear himself.
There are treat bags given to the children on all excursions.
You will need to set up your reservations as soon as possible, only one evening slot is available as of today, October 26th, 2010.
The last event is the Gingerbread Festival up at Conner Prairie.
It is a delighful experience to go and see all the Gingerbread houses, towns, and close to skyscrapers that are displayed!
If you are interested in competing, all entry forms are due by Friday, November 5th with a non refundabl entry fee of $15.00. There are various age categories for judging from (9-12 yr old) to (18 and up). There will also be awards for the People’s Choice, Most Traditional, Most Creative, etc. Cash prizes are awarded! They must be bigger than 9″ x 9″ and smaller than 24″ x 24″.
Gingerbread houses are due to Conner Prairie by November 19th.
The event for viewing begins on December 1st and runs all the way through Christmas and ends on January 3rd 2011. You’ll have plenty of time to schedule your trip! They are open Tues-Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Trick or Treat at Fishers Town Hall is Friday October 29th from 2:30 to 4:00.

We are located just east of I69 (over the bridge) to Exit 5 Parkway, go north and we are the first left. The address is 11800 Exit 5 Parkway. Contact me at cindymarchant@comcast.net for hours.
The hours for trick or treating in Fishers ON Halloween are from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. In addition there are some other great events in the Fishers area from now until December, be sure to read “Things to do in Fishers for the Holidays” post.
Here are some tips for trick or treating:
- Only go to houses you know
- Think about using makeup rather than a mask for better visibility
- Add reflective tape to the costumes for cars to see your kids
- Be sure to inspect the candy before your child eats it
- Have fun sorting the candy!
I threw that #5 in there because that was my favorite part when I was a kid, sorting it. I always had way too many Tootsie Rolls!
Part of my job as the Fishers Realtor is to provide community information as well as market reports, so if you want something highlighted, let me know. And stay tuned for more posts that details the Fishers Real Estate market!

Fishers Capital Referendum-Vote November 2
Posted by marchantteam under For Buyers, For Sellers, General Information, Happenings
It is the political time of the year and one of my readers has asked that I publish a post on the Referendum to make everyone more aware. I’m happy to do that to help educate the residents owning Fishers Real Estate.
On November 2nd, voters in Hamilton Southeastern School District will be asked to vote on a Capital Referendum (HSE Facility Plan). The Referendum would give the District permission to build new facilities to accomdate the growth in the District. The District currently serves about 17,000 students and has been growing at a rate of about 1,200 students each year since 2000.
Here is how the Referendum reads:
“Shall Hamilton Southeastern Schools issue bonds or enter into a lease or leases to finance the tax neutral Maintaining Excellence project which includes the conversion of Hamilton SE Jr High into a Hamilton SE High School Freshman Center, building a new Junior High School and building a new elementary school all for the important purpose of maintaining reasonable class sizes at all grade levels and to alleviate the need for excessive use of portabe classrooms, which is estimated to cost not more than $62,000,000 and is estimated to increase the property tax rate for debt service by $0.0944 per $100 of assessed value, which will be offset by the Hamilton SE Schools’ repayment of other current obligations such that there is not anticipated to be any increase in the debt service fund tax rate during the repaymnt of the proposed financing?”
The Freshman Campus would occupy the current HSE Jr High facility on Olio Road beginning in the Fall of 2012 The new Jr High would be constructed at Cyntheanne Road and Greenfield Ave (land already owned by HSE). The new elementary school would likely be constructed on HSE-owned land at 136th/141st stree area.
